A grant from the Lori Rogers Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba provided the music therapy program at St. Amant Centre with the funds to purchase state-of-the-art instruments that would otherwise be unattainable.
The Soundbeam is one of the instruments that was purchased through the Lori Rogers Fund and is one of a handful in Canada. “For our students it provides them with a means of creating sound with body movement," says Grant Miyai, Music Therapist at the St. Amant Centre. “The Soundbeam is set up to send sound waves like a submarine. Instead of creating a visual picture it creates a sound picture. Thus our students can create sound with little movements.”
The other purchase was a carbon fibre guitar, which can withstand varying degrees of humidity and many hours of hard playing time. “Again, a guitar of this caliber would have been quite impossible to gain without the assistance of the Lori Rogers Fund," says Miyai.
The new equipment allows students at the St. Amant Centre to experience music like they never have before. “Thank you for the grant from the Lori Rogers Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba and for your continued support. Your support instills a deep commitment to create and innovate my music therapy program," says Miyai. “It is my way of keeping Lori’s love of music and memory very much alive at the St. Amant Centre.”
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba is able to assist a wide range of organizations that provide services and improve the quality of life in our community - today, tomorrow, forever.
