Below are answers to some of our frequently asked questions about the scholarship application process.

Scholarship FAQs

  • Can I apply for a scholarship if I haven’t been accepted or don’t know which school I will be attending?

    Yes. In submitting your application, please indicate to which schools you applied and will be applying. Use the HIGHEST cost scenario for the financial section.  If you are awarded a scholarship, you will need to provide proof that you have been accepted and are attending one of your chosen institutions.
  • Can I apply for more than one scholarship at a time?

    You are encouraged to apply for all scholarships that fit your circumstances.
  • Can I apply for a scholarship if I don’t have a Social Insurance Number?

    No.  We require that you provide us with a social insurance number at the time of application. Please note that you will be issued a T4A after you have received your scholarship.
  • Can I apply for a scholarship if I am studying on a student visa?

    No. Only residents of Manitoba with a social insurance number can apply.
  • What should I do if my email address or home address changes?

    Contact Marla Aronovitch, Director of Operations & Grants, by telephone at 204.480.7557 or toll-free from the US/Canada at 1.855.284.1918 to make sure we change your email address and home address in our records, as notifications are sent out by email and cheques will be sent to the most current address we have on file for you.
  • What is the dollar value of the scholarships?

    There is no minimum or maximum amount awarded, however the range can be from $500 to $5,000.  The amount you are awarded is determined by the Committee based on an analysis of all the information you have provided.
  • What if I do not submit all the required information?

    The Foundation will not consider the application unless it is complete.
  • How will I know if my recommenders have completed their task?

    You will be unable to submit your application unless your recommendations have been completed. Check your application daily and make sure to speak with your recommenders to ensure the task is completed on time.
  • What should I do if I do not have official transcripts for the current year?

    You must provide your marks from the first term of the current year. If an official transcript is not available, we will accept a web printout as long as it is identifiable as yours.  
  • How do I attach the required documents?

    The entire application form along with the requested attachments must be uploaded to your application file. Attachments can be converted to a PDF through one of many free applications available online (e.g. Bullzip PDF Printer) or sent in their original format (e.g. MS Word).  
  • How do I save my application?

    Your application automatically saves as you complete the process.
  • Will you notify me when my online application has been received?

    We will send you an email confirming that the application has been received. The application will then be reviewed and you will be notified if we require any further information.
  • How and when will I be notified if I receive a scholarship?

    If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, you will be notified by email  in June. You will be invited to attend a scholarship award event at which time your award letter will be presented to you. The award letter will provide information on which scholarship you received along with the criteria and amount of the award.
  • If my application is declined, do you explain why?

    Because of the number of applications we receive, it is impossible for us to inform applicants regarding why they were not selected.
  • Do I receive the scholarship award cheque?

    Yes. Once we have received confirmation of your registration and thank you letters we will send you a cheque.
  • If I receive a scholarship one year, will I automatically receive it the following year?

    No. Scholarships and award applications are only applicable for the year in which they are submitted. You must reapply each year.
  • How do I thank the donors who provided the funds for my scholarship?

    You may address all correspondence to the donors c/o Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400 – 123 Doncaster Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3N 2B2. We are happy to forward your correspondence to the donors. If they are no longer living, we will forward your letter to a family member or our Board of Directors. Please note that your acceptance letter will state who funded your scholarship. You are asked to address the letter to the donor or administrator of the fund stated.
