2011 General Grant Recipients


The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba approved the following grants:

  • ASPER JEWISH COMMUNITY CAMPUS
    To fund a secure WiFi system on the east half of the Campus to service the meeting rooms and board rooms.

    To fund the construction of one soccer pitch complete with an artificial playing surface and drainage system.

  • ARTHUR V. MAURO CENTRE FOR PEACE & JUSTICE
    To fund bringing in feature story teller Monique Saigal-Escudero to the Winnipeg International Storytelling Festival. Monique was a "hidden child" in France during the Second World War.

  • ASPERGER MANITOBA
    To fund their first national conference on Asperger Syndrome which will be held in October 2011.

  • B'NAI BRITH CAMP
    To fund the position of a Marketing/Alumni Coordinator.

    To fund the replacement of the meat and dairy coolers and freezer with a remote condensing system which produces no internal heat.

  • BRANDON DANCE ENSEMBLE
    To fund the hiring of outside experts who will conduct workshops and choreograph new dances.

  • CAMP MASSAD
    To fund the site plan inplementation project, which will include an elevation survey, a ramp to allow full accessibility to the dining hall and the refurbishment of camper cabins.

    To fund the purchase of new mattresses, new deadbolts for cabin doors, improved common area lighting and an electrical system upgrade.

  • CHAI FOLK ENSEMBLE
    To upgrade their antiquated audio monitor system to a more efficient
    in-ear wireless system.

  • GRAY ACADEMY OF JEWISH EDUCATION
    To purchase musical instruments in order to expand the band component of the school.

    To fund hardware upgrades required to run the Mayet student information system.

    To fund the implementation of desktop virtualization which separates a personal desktop environment from a physical machine using a
    client-server model of computing.

  • GWEN SECTER CREATIVE LIVING CENTRE
    To fund the purchase of a new environmentally sound hand drying solution in the bathrooms. This will replace the cloth and paper towels currently in use.

    To fund the replacement of the existing grease trap in their kosher kitchen.

    To fund a monthly program for elderly Jewish Russian immigrants.

  • IMMANUEL FELLOWSHIP CHURCH
    To fund the construction of a fence with a gate around their property to ensure the safety and security of the children.

  • JEWISH CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICE
    To fund the replenishment of the Tzedakah Fund.

    To fund their community needs assessment. This will allows for informed decisions regarding service delivery both in the immediate and distant future.

    To fund the part-time Addiction Support Social Worker to attend conferences, produce promotional and educational materials, conduct workshops and seminars, and run supportive groups for recovering Jewish addicts and/or their family members.

  • JEWISH HERITAGE CENTRE
    To fund the research phase of an exhibit that will look at the history and contemporary relevance of the garment industry, specifically in relation to the growth and development of the Jewish community.

  • JOCELYN HOUSE
    To fund a new program called "The Life Enhancement Program." The goals of this program is to enhance the quality of life for the residents and their family through music, storytelling and meditation.

  • MANITOBA OPERA
    To fund the production and performance "Brundibár" - a children's opera by Jewish Czech composer Hans Krása that was originally performed by the children of Theresienstadt concentration camp.This project will be in conjunction with the Manitoba school curriculum on human rights and the opening of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

  • RADY JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTRE
    To fund the development of a training manual and orientation for new staff in order to improve customer service.

  • PRAIRIE THEATRE EXCHANGE
    To fund the revitalization of the Theatre with the addition of a new lounge. This lounge will improve the experience of patrons.

  • WINNIPEG JEWISH THEATRE
    To fund the production of "Way to Heaven."

  • WINNIPEG STUDIO THEATRE
    To fund the production of a new Canadian musical, "My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding" which is based on a true story.
