Education Awards

Guidelines & Application Process

The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba offers special awards and scholarships to students pursuing their educational dreams.

Each award has criteria based on the donor's interest.

Research our scholarship funds and guidelines below.

 

  • The application process is now closed.
  • The deadlines are February 28 for special awards and March 31 for scholarships. 
  • Supplemental documents must be received by the stated deadline.

  • You may be eligible for more than one scholarship. You can apply for multiple awards with one online application.
  • If you previously applied for scholarship in an earlier year, you must create a new profile to apply again for this year.
  • All education awards applications must be completed using our online application process. This new process is 100% paperless; all required accompanying materials must be included with your application or sent via e-mail to scholarships@jewishfoundation.org.

Awards & Guideline Information


JFM education awards are for Manitoba residents ONLY or former Manitobans who have been out of the province no longer than four years.



AWARDS WITH FEBRUARY 28 DEADLINE


MARK & DOROTHY DANZKER SCHOLARSHIP

For university/college students
[Deadline: Feb. 28]

$10,000 per year awarded to one recipient.

Awarded to a Jewish student entering or enrolled in a post-graduate degree program with preference given to persons studying at a Manitoba educational institution. This award is based on academic achievement, financial need and community involvement.

MONA GRAY CREATIVE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

For arts students pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies

[Deadline: Feb. 28]


$5,000 per year awarded to one recipient.

Awarded to a Bachelor's degree graduate or to a 3rd or 4th year Undergraduate who is pursuing a university degree in one of the following areas: creative writing, film, fine arts, music, theatre or dance. This award is based on artistic achievement and/or merit, academic excellence, financial need and community involvement.

RUTH & JOE FREED AND STEPHEN FREED
AND FAMILY ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS

For university/college students

[Deadline: Feb. 28]

Awarded to Jewish students who have excelled academically in university or college studies, and who have demonstrated a commitment to the Jewish community. These awards are based on consistent excellence in academics and community involvement with no financial need component.

JOEL A. WEINSTEIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

For studies in Israel

[Deadline: Feb. 28]

$5,000 per year awarded to one recipient.


Awarded to a Jewish student who is attending a university, college or
post-graduate program at an educational institution in Israel and who has a strong commitment to the community and volunteerism. This award is based on academic achievement and community involvement both locally and in Israel.

SAUL & CLARIBEL SIMKIN CENTRE
FAMILY EDUCATION AWARD

For children/dependents of Saul & Claribel Simkin Centre employees

[Deadline: Feb. 28]

$2,000 per year awarded to one recipient.

Friends of the Saul & Claribel Simkin Centre established this award to help children/dependents of long-service employees pursue post-secondary education. The award is based on financial need, academic achievement and community involvement.

AWARDS WITH MARCH 31 DEADLINE


$500 to $4,000 per year awarded to mulitple recipients based on financial need.


JFM GENERAL STUDIES AWARDS

For university and college students

[Deadline: Mar. 31]

Awarded to Jewish students who are in need of financial assistance to continue post-secondary education at a university, college or other
post-secondary program. These awards are based on financial need, academic achievement and community involvement.

AWARDS FOR JUDAIC STUDIES
AND/OR STUDIES IN ISRAEL

University and college students

[Deadline: Mar. 31]

Awarded to students who wish to pursue education in a Judaic studies program OR at a recognized university, college, post-graduate, or summer program in Israel. This award is based on the nature and length of the program, academic achievement and community involvement. Financial need may also be a consideration.

GEORGE FINKLE MEMORIAL SCHOLASTIC AWARDS

For high school graduates

[Deadline: Mar. 31]

Awarded to Jewish high school students who are in need of financial assistance to begin post-secondary education at a University, College or other post-secondary program in Manitoba. These awards are based on financial need, academic achievement and community involvement. 

Financial need must be proven by submission of parents’ tax returns.

A WEEKEND OR HOLIDAY, DEADLINE IS EXTENDED
TO 9 AM THE FOLLOWING BUSINESS DAY.

Please note: The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba reserves the right not to award these scholarships on an annual basis and/or to allocate the award among more than one individual. This is dependent upon the receipt of qualified applications as determined by the terms and conditions of the scholarship.
