| 2010 SPECIAL GRANT RECIPIENTS |
- WILLOW ASTER –
to support the festival and Shabbaton. It will celebrate the life, teachings, songs, and stories of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav (Breslov) on the occasion of his 200th yahrzeit.
- NOAM GONICK –
To support the completion of post-production on a short documentary film about John Hirsch, a holocaust survivor who was adopted by a Winnipeg family at the age seventeen and went on to create the Manitoba Theatre Centre and play an important role in the international theatre.
- CAIRN MOORE –
For the development, dramaturgical guidance and completed first draft of his new play titled "Shiksa". "Shiksa" is a full length comedic play in two acts, that explores the challenges inherent in multi-faith relationships.
- MICHAEL NATHANSON. -
To support the second and third drafts of Nathanson's newest play - "One of Ours" as well as two workshops.
- CELIA RABINOVITCH -
to fund a vernacular visual history of the Canadian Midwest before World War II by a Jewish Canadian war hero, Isadore Nicholas Yudell. The project uses archival photographs of Canada in the 1930's, capturing the people and events experienced by a young Jewish Canadian, Nick Yudell. These are from a never before seen cache of carefully catalogued negatives taken by Nick Yudell from 1928-1939.
- SUSAN TURNER -
to fund the "Tabernacle: The Ceremonial Fabric of Jewish Life (a visual arts project").The project will incorporate digital inkjet prints, small sculptural objects of paper and metal, and artist-bookworks of image and text.
