Women's Endowment Fund

The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba's Women's Endowment Fund is designed to generate financial resources for the benefit of organizations helping Manitoba women. It is a practical, meaningful way to act as "women helping women".

History of the Fund

The Women's Endowment Fund was established in 1994 to encourage women’s philanthropy. The Fund is committed to improving the lives of Manitoba women by generating financial resources that are distributed in the form of grants, twice annually. The WEF inspires women about philanthropy and the power they have to effect positive change.

The WEF is unique in Manitoba, giving exclusively to organizations and programs devoted to enriching the lives of girls and women. Since its inception, the WEF has distributed over $550,000 in grants to more than 90 different organizations.

In Spring 2018, the Women’s Endowment Fund supported the following initiatives:

Alpha House ($1,560)

  • To add programming that incorporates new strategies to help the women in their program learn healthy coping skills and healthy eating.

Chemo Savvy Inc. ($6,000)

  • The purchase of race shirts for their successful dragon boat season.

Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre at Syd Glow Place ($6,500)

  • To fund The Visiting Baba Program which provides companionship and support to help seniors and those widowed retain their independence and return to social and community life.

Jewish Child and Family Service ($5,000)

  • To fund a project involving several initiatives facilitated by Jewish Child and Family Service (JCFS) that will focus on Women's Brain Health across the age continuum.

Rady Jewish Community Centre ($7,700)

  • To fund the ‘Girls are Great’ program for tween and teen girls living with special needs which will provide experiences that will be empowering and instil self-confidence in tweens and teen girls transitioning into young adulthood.

  • To fund a series of workshops providing creative methods for women to share their personal narratives.

Women’s Health Clinic ($5,000)

  • To expand the resource centre and create service provider training for pregnancy and infant loss, a service that is unmet today in Manitoba.
