Leilani Kagan

Leilani Kagan's practice as a member of the tax and estate-planning group at Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP focuses primarily on the areas of owner-manager taxation issues, corporate reorganizations, trusts & estate planning and charities & non-profits. 

Leilani has authored and presented papers on various tax and estate-planning topics, including several papers for the Law Society of Manitoba’s Continuing Legal Education program and for the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Prairie Provinces Tax Conference. Leilani has also presented a series of seminars for the United Way focused on tax and charities law, as well as presented to the Chartered Professional Accountants, Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. Leilani prepares the written materials for the tax portions of Manitoba’s new Centre for Professional Legal Education Program and is a learning group facilitator for the Program. She is also the Vice-Chair of the Taxation Section of the Manitoba Bar Association. Leilani has completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountant’s In-Depth Tax Program.

Leilani’s community involvement includes her activities as Director and Past-President of The Dream Factory Foundation and Trustee of The Helen Betty Osborne Memorial Foundation. Leilani also volunteers on the Major Donor Cabinet of the United. 

In 2008, Leilani was a recipient of Lexpert’s “Rising Stars” award, recognizing Canada’s 40 Leading Lawyers Under 40.
