Joel A. Weinstein Memorial Scholarship

$5,000 per year awarded to one recipient *

Awarded to a full-time student (60% minimum course load) who is attending a university, college or post-graduate program at an educational institution in Israel who has a strong commitment to the community and volunteerism. This award is based on academic achievement and community involvement both locally and in Israel.

To be eligible for the Joel A. Weinstein Memorial Scholarship, an applicant:

  • Must be Jewish;
  • Must be a resident of Manitoba;
  • Must be applying for, have been accepted into or continuing studies at a University or College in Israel;
  • Must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the selection committee a record of volunteer activity in the local community and specific plans for volunteer activity during his or her year of study in Israel. **

** The candidate will be required to report semi-annually on his or her volunteer experiences.

Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in awarding the scholarship:

  • Academic excellence;
  • Volunteer work in the Jewish community;
  • Volunteer work in the local community;
  • Volunteer involvement in Israel;
  • Financial need;
  • The nature and length of the program for which the applicant is applying.

Scholarships are awarded for studies commencing in September of any given year.

* The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba reserves the right not to award these scholarships on an annual basis. This is dependent upon the receipt of qualified applications as determined by the terms and conditions of the scholarship.
